Who We Are
LOGAN COUNTY HISTORY CENTER
The Logan County Historical Society owns and operates the Logan County History Center which includes the Orr Mansion, Logan County Museum & Transportation Museum addition, Archives, & Photo Archives.
The History Center is a unique facility comprised of The Orr Mansion, The Logan County Museum, and the Transportation Museum. All the museum buildings are connected making it enjoyable to visit all three without going outside. The History Center also includes the Historical Society Office and gift shop. The History Center Archives collection and Logan County Genealogical Society Library are housed on the second floor of the Transportation Museum.
The Purpose of the Logan County History Center is to promote education on the history of Logan County and the collection and exhibit of artifacts, documents, and other historical items from all of Logan County.
THE HISTORY MUSEUM
The museum was originally the Latham’s Convalescent Home. The nursing home operated from the early 1960s – early 1980s. The museum converted the patient rooms and exam rooms into exhibits.
THE ORR MANSION
The William Orr Residence in now the home of the Logan County Historical Society. The Historical Society purchased the home and the attached nursing home in 1988 for $50,000. After much work and remodeling it was opened to the public in 1989.
THE TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM
The Transportation Museum opened April 2014. The building was designed in the spirit of the Big Four/New York Central Roundhouse that stood in Bellefontaine from late 1890s-1960s.
